Japanese Tea Ceremony
Sunday, August 11, 2013
Ozawa Pavilion
Experience Japanese culture in a unique setting. Traditional tea offerings are hosted at the Ozawa Pavilion, our authentic Japanese Tea House set in the tranquil Kurimoto Japanese Garden. Several sittings are held inside the Ozawa Pavilion throughout the day. Please check this website for sitting times closer to the date. Japanese sweets and tea are provided to guests, as well as an explanation of the tearoom and tea ceremony.
The tea ceremony is presented by the Matsukaze Chanoyu Group (Wind in the Pines Tea Group), a group of volunteers dedicated to preserving the tradition of the Japanese tea offering. Tickets are $7.50 and are paid directly to the volunteer group (cash only). The ticket price helps to offset the cost of imported tea and sweets.
A free guided tour of the Kurimoto Japanese Garden will also be offered on Tea Ceremony day – a wonderful opportunity to learn about the fascinating history and symbolism behind this special garden. Check at the Gift Shop for tour times.
Tea tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis the day of the tea. No advance tickets available.
Regular admission rates apply. Free admission to the Garden for Friends of the Garden Members.
Cost for tea ceremony is $7.50
